四川石棉矿矿体呈脉状,属震旦纪岩浆期后矿床,矿石为蛇纹石石棉。广元堡2号矿脉为倾斜中厚矿体,走向北东45°;1089(海拔)中段矿脉倾角45～55°,水平厚12～15米,矿石品位3.2%,f=4～6,体重2.38吨/米~3。矿体节理、片理较发育,中等稳固。矿脉上盘为中等稳固的蛇纹岩,下盘为稳固的长英岩、蛇纹岩。在下盘距矿脉2～3米有一走向、倾向大致平行矿脉的正断层(F),断距0.1～0.2米。过去,一直用分段法(图1)开采2号矿脉,采准、切割工程多布置在下盘围岩中,爆落矿石借自重进入分段平巷8(兼作电耙道),
