With 25hm2 of farmland between the fences of Israel’s largest refinery and the newly excavated Kishon River, it is home to Israel’s most expensive and complex soil management and river rehabilitation project. For decades, industrial waste discharged from adjacent industrial areas has polluted the streams’ beds and degenerated their ecosystems. They have not only excluded people’s entertainment but also become a public health threat. The Kishun River Rehabilitation Project is a remediation project that includes 1 million m3 of heavily contaminated sludge remediation on the site of the site and a 20m-high earthworks landfill rebuilding project. Landscape design will serve as a catalyst for the rehabilitation of waterfront banks and wetland habitats, and over time they will eventually become part of the planned urban park. This case study also demonstrates the central role played by landscape architects on brownfield projects: moving from a mere visual creator to a key participant in a new planning scenario by designing and implementing a solution to create a Ecologically rich and meet the needs of various social landscapes.
