The application prospect of urea formaldehyde resin (UF) and the harm of free formaldehyde to human health were introduced. The synthesis mechanism of UF was described. Summarized and evaluated several commonly used methods of synthesizing environmentally friendly UFs and prospected their future synthesis directions.
