随着机械制造业的飞速发展,工件材料的力学性能和加工精度不断提高,刀具材料不断推陈出新,迅速发展。目前常用的刀具材料有碳素工具钢、高速钢、硬质合金、陶瓷和超硬刀具材料,用得最多的是高速钢和硬质合金。为了满足机械加工的需求,超硬材料得到越来越多的应用。目前已研制出既具有高速钢、硬质合金的强度和韧性,又具有超硬材料的硬度和耐磨性的刀具材料——涂层刀具、人造立方氮化硼和人造聚晶金刚石等。
