7月28日,“清华女孩西出阳关”活动一行人从兰州启程,走过河西四郡——武威、张掖、酒泉、敦煌,造访北京沙尘暴之源的额济纳。8月3日,由敦煌出玉门关、进入罗布泊,寻找古代王国楼兰。经历了6天了艰险,一行人于8月9日走出了罗布泊,到达库尔勒。此次活动由清华大学国际传播研究中心主办,“牧童山泉”提供资助,由探险家林永健担任野外领队。清华大学女学生包丽敏和她的4位同学在其导师李希光教授的带领指导下,沿途感受西部风情,观察人文和自然变迁,利用互联网和海事卫星电话等现代通讯工具及时将每天的日记发回到该中心主页及北京青年报网络版。本刊特将女孩手记略作删改刊发如下。1980年,科学家彭加木在罗布泊失踪,一去不复返;1996年,探险家余纯顺试图徒步穿越罗布泊,迎接他的依然是死神。罗布泊神秘而令人畏惧。今年的7月底8月初,却有两个女孩(清华大学人文学院学生包丽敏和北京女孩许山山)和她们的同学老师一起走向河西走廊,出玉门关,闯入了这片“死亡之海”……她们以女孩的心去面对艰险,地面对美丽……
