According to recent developments in the world energy balance sheet, the modernization of the coal industry is gaining in importance. Many coal washing plants have adopted or are ready for computer control. Control technology has been widely used in many non-precious metals industry and is also very suitable for coal washing plants. For all control systems, it is important to accurately measure the parameters being controlled. This requires a sensor that can provide information quickly and accurately. In the pulverized coal circuit, the parameters that must be measured and controlled are the ash content (%) of the clean and tailings coal. Only by continuously measuring the ash content of the coal slurry of clean and tail coal can the operating conditions be adjusted in time to achieve the best separation efficiency throughout the entire production period. Michigan Tech University designed and tested an “on-line a sh monitor.” It measures ash content (%) and solids content (%) in real time. Two radioisotopes were used in this setup, and the signal of the raw material is related to the concentration of the slurry and its ash content. Based on these data, recent control options can be determined.
