China’s classical literati garden is a unique tradition in environmental design, which has philosophical origins and rich connotation. These gardens are not simple buildings, but also embody the concept of human status in nature and express this feature in material form. For their part, they represent a tradition of great concern and importance, reflecting the harmonious relations between structures and natural landscapes, which are of special significance. In terms of the relationship between Chinese classical landscape and contemporary environmental concepts, we explore some of its potential concepts and characteristics and ask whether this unique cultural development reflects the idea of “contributing to contemporary environmental design.” It also points out five characteristics of Chinese classical gardens, considering whether these characteristics can guide the design of the environment and make the harmony between man and nature.
