LNG supply continues to decline, but the scale of LNG carriers will continue to grow. In fact, if all of the LNG project plans go smoothly, the number of carriers required will far exceed the current volume ordered. Trading LNG shipping market is facing difficult times. Trade and supply have shrunk, while the size of the fleet has been expanding. Estimates show that the global LNG trade in 2013 dropped 1% YoY in the second consecutive year. Due to various reasons such as pipeline damage or technical failure, many LNG stations experienced unplanned downtime accidents and shortages caused the price to rise. High oil prices also exerted some influence as most of the contracts signed in the past were linked to oil prices.
