Quantitative analysis of tertiary amine alkaloids in different parts of Uncaria rhynchophylla was performed using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The best results were obtained with radial bonded phase C8 columns and acetonitrile-0.05M ammonium acetate buffer (90:10, pH 4.0). The dried and crushed samples of various parts of the plant were concentrated and heated to reflux in a solution of benzene in a benzene solution, suction filtered, washed with benzene, and the combined filtrates were evaporated to remove the solvent. The residue was dissolved in benzene-ethyl acetate-methanol (2:2:1) and subjected to column chromatography on alumina, eluting with the same solvent system, and the solvent was evaporated. Residue dissolved
