The relationship between the cooling effect of CaCl2 on rabbits with fever and the content of Na + and Ca ++ in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and the ratio of Na + / Ca ++ in CSF was observed. The results showed that the content of Ca ++ in plasma and CSF of rabbits with endotoxin-induced fever was significantly lower than that of normal rabbits, and the ratio of Na + / Ca ++ in CSF was significantly higher than that in normal rabbits. In addition to the increase of Ca ++ content in plasma, Ca ++ content in CSF increased to normal level in rabbits in intravenous injection CaCl2-induced cooling effect, meanwhile Na + / Ca ++ ratio decreased to close to that of normal rabbits. This suggests that the intravenous injection of CaCl2 to ET-induced fever in rabbits decreased body temperature, may be increased by increasing the content of brain Ca ++, Na + / Ca ++ ratio to achieve reduction.
