At the beginning of the founding of New China, my parents and Liu Chang-ming’s predecessors both worked in the operations department of the Central Military Commission. The office was next to the residence of Chairman Mao Zedong in Zhongnanhai. Comrade Liu Changming followed Chairman Mao’s faction in northern Shaanxi during the War of Liberation and later wrote a memoir “Following Chairman Mao’s visit from Yan’an to northern Shaanxi,” and gave him a copy of his father’s book. There is a passage in the book about Chairman Mao’s calligraphy practice: During Chairman Mao’s faction in Northern Shaanxi, he insisted on practicing calligraphy in spite of the heavy fighting. One day in January 1948, in a small village called Yangjiagou in northern Shaanxi, Comrade Liu Changming sent documents to Chairman Mao and saw that Chairman Mao was on the book board and there were many ancient famous posts on small tables.
