In 1980, the United States and South Korean engineers formed a cooperation group to conduct a preliminary investigation of 17 200 to 450 MW oil-fired boilers at five power stations. The degree of adaptation of the boiler into coal powder was analyzed and graded. The grading criteria include available space for coal handling and storage; furnace design parameters; shape of hearth hopper; adaptability of the ash outgassing device at the bottom of the furnace; distance between superheater, reheater and economizer pipe sections, and Coal mill, coal pipeline, electrostatic precipitator and fly ash storage and discharge device installation space.
