旋花,首载于《神农本草经》(下称《本经》),列为上品。介绍简略,仅47字。原文“旋花,味甘,温。主益气,去面皯黑色,媚好。其根,味辛。主腹中寒热邪气,利小便。久服不饥轻身。一名筋根,花一名金沸。生平泽。”全文未有形状介绍。但从《本草纲目》(下称《纲目》)中可窥视旋花形状之梗概。李时珍在《纲目》草部第十八卷介绍了旋花。在“正误”项中,引用了“[弘景曰]旋花东人呼为山姜,南人呼为美草。根似杜若,亦似高良姜。……其叶似姜,
