香港回归祖国是中国和世界现代史上的一件大事,它将雪洗中华民族自鸦片战争以来一个半世纪遭受外国侵略的耻辱.1997年7月1日起,中华人民共和国恢复对香港行使主权,香港将成为直辖于中央人民政府的一个享有高度自治权的特别行政区,并且将继续保持现有的资本主义制度和生活方式50年不变.届时香港同胞将在祖国怀抱里成为香港社会的真正主人.基本法保证了香港同胞得以实行充分的民主和享有广泛的公民权利和自由.
Hong Kong’s return to the motherland is a major event in the modern history of China and the world that will wash the Chinese nation from the humiliation of foreign aggression for a century and a half since the Opium War. As of July 1, 1997, the People’s Republic of China resumed its exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong, Hong Kong will become a highly autonomous special administrative region under the Central People’s Government and will continue to maintain its existing capitalist system and way of life for 50 years, when Hong Kong compatriots will become the true masters of Hong Kong in the embrace of the motherland The Basic Law guarantees Hong Kong compatriots the full realization of democracy and enjoyment of a wide range of civil rights and freedoms.
