主席先生: 在经历了长达15年的艰苦努力谈判之后,我们终于迎来了这一历史性时刻。在此,我代表中国政府对WTO部长级会议作出关于中国加入 WTO的决定表示感谢。借此机会,请允许我对长期以来支持中国加入WTO的所有成员和中国工作组主席吉拉德先生表示感谢。我还要对15年来给予我们支持和帮助的历任总干事——邓克尔先生、萨瑟兰先生、鲁杰罗先生、穆尔先生表示感谢。 加入WTO和全面参与多边贸易体制,是中国领导人在经济全球化进程加快的形势下作出的战略决策。中国为复关和加入WTO作出了长期不懈的努力,这充分表明了中国深化改革和扩大开放的决心和信心。加入WTO不仅有利于中国,而且有利于所有WTO成员、有助于多边贸易体制的发展。它必将对新世纪的中国经济和世界经济产生广泛和深远
Mr. Chairman, After having endured up to 15 years of hard-working negotiations, we have finally ushered in this historic moment. Here, on behalf of the Chinese government, I would like to thank the WTO ministerial meeting for its decision on China’s accession to the WTO. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to all members of the Chinese government that have long supported China’s accession to the WTO and to Mr. Gerald, Chairman of the China Working Group. I would also like to express my appreciation for the successive Director-Generals, Mr. Dunkel, Sutherland, Rugo and Mr. Moore, who have given us their support and help over the past 15 years. Joining the WTO and fully participating in the multilateral trade system are the strategic decisions made by the Chinese leaders under the situation of accelerating economic globalization. China has made unremitting efforts for the long-term resumption of its diplomatic relations and accession to the WTO, which fully demonstrates China’s determination and confidence in deepening reform and opening wider to the outside world. Joining the WTO not only benefits China but also benefits all WTO members and contributes to the development of the multilateral trading system. It is bound to have a broad and far-reaching impact on the Chinese economy and the world economy in the new century
