闭鞘姜Costus speciosus(Koenig)Smith是姜科中闭鞘姜亚科的一个品种。在我国主要分布于华南地区,生于疏林下、山谷荫湿地、路旁草丛、荒坡、水沟等地。民间称樟柳头,有小量种植作为药用。广东大部分地区作商陆入药,称广东商陆。多用作消炎、利尿、消肿、止痒、止咳等,并有用来治胃气痛、阳萎、痈肿恶疮、骨折,又用来堕胎;本品有小毒,孕妇忌服。1970年,Dasgupta & Pandey首先自闭鞘姜的根茎分离出薯蓣皂甙元(diosgenin)和替告皂甙元(tigogenin)。他们的报告立刻引起多方面的重视。目前著蓣皂甙元的来源多从薯蓣属(Dioscorea)的品
