本文提出了《霍城县志》续修的总体设想。与上届志书在时间、内容上“压茬”衔接。采用中编结构 ,横分门类 ,纵述史实。在现有体裁的基础上增设“特载”、“专记”,强化表格。续志应采取史志结合的笔法 ,充分吸收史体的长处 ,探索出一种主体突出、简洁明快、内容厚实、见人见事见物的新型史志结合体志书。续编志书的篇目应以首届志书的篇目为蓝本 ,在此基础上适当调整。在内容上要彰明时代特色和地方特色。
