菜用毛豆,营养丰富,鲜食或加工均可。成熟的豆粒还可作为豆制品和豆芽的原科,受市民欢迎。毛豆品种繁多,熟次也多,供应周期长,是蔬菜淡季佳品。我县各乡均有种植,粮棉区以“四旁”和田埂种植为主,菜区在大田种植。为夺取毛豆高产,近年来新泾、三林等乡农科站进行了喷施微量元素的试验,取得了较好的增产效应。新泾乡农科站多年试验结果如下: 1982年,在毛豆上喷施0.1%钼酸铵溶液,平均亩产921.8斤,比对照(用清水同时喷施,以下同)增产28.6%;1983年,喷施0.1%钼酸铵溶液,平均亩产702.4斤,比对照增产32.8%;1984年,喷施0.1%钼酸铵溶液,平均亩产1088.3斤,比对照增产12.8%。以上产量均为三次重复的平均数。喷施时间,开花期和结荚期各一次。
