我們戰勝了一次嚴重的災荒一九四九年的災荒,種类多(主要是水災),地區廣,災情連續,不僅是美帝與蔣介石匪幫直接造成,也是封建階級長期統治的結果。在嚴重的災荒面前,災區人民在中国共產黨及中央人民政府的領導下,不屈不撓,一年來進行了一系列的和災荒作鬥爭的工作,獲得了巨大的成績。在幾千年來的中國历史上,每逢一次大的災荒,總有成千百萬的人餓死。舊統治者對於人民的生命是不負責的。一九三一年在國民黨反動統治下,餓死了三百七十萬人。去年是中央人民政府剛剛成立的一年,面臨着如此嚴重的災荒,却基本上保證了“不饿死人”的口號的实現。
We have overcome a grave famine. The famine in 1949 was of a great variety (mainly floods). The area was wide and the disaster was continuous. It was not only caused directly by the U.S. imperialism and Chiang Kai-shek gangs, but also resulted from the long-term rule of the feudal class. In the face of grave famine, under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and the Central People’s Government, people in the quake-stricken areas have worked tirelessly over the past year in a series of battles against famine and have achieved great successes. For thousands of years in Chinese history, millions of people have starved to death during a major famine. The old ruler is not responsible for the life of the people. In 1931, under the reactionary Kuomintang rule, 3.73 million people starved to death. Last year was a year when the Central People’s Government was just established. Faced with such a grave famine, it basically guaranteed the realization of the slogan “Do not starve people.”
