Based on the integral of freezing point decay, the formula of ion melts of Cumgin and the latest discoveries about the structure of molten cryolite, several reaction mechanisms of dissolving alumina in cryolite were analyzed. According to the graph of -logα_0 versus 1 / T, the following reaction mechanism is most likely: 3F ~ - + Al_2O_3 = 3 / 2AlO_2 ~ - + 1 / 2AlF_6 ~ (3-). When the content of alumina is high, the deviation of this reaction from the straight line in the graph may be due to the formation of Al 2 O 4 ~ (2-) due to some recombination of AlO 2 - ions.
