With the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the bipolar system, the Clinton administration put the issue of economy at the center of foreign policy for the first time in the history of the United States after the war. In order to rejuvenate the domestic economy, the United States has adjusted its regional economic strategy and shifted its economic and trade center of gravity from the east of Western Europe to the Asia-Pacific region. Sino-US economic relations are an important part of the U.S. Asia-Pacific economic strategy. The eastward shift of the U.S. economic strategy inevitably affects China’s foreign economic activities from different aspects. I. Why the U.S. Economic Strategy Moves Eastward For a long time, the United States has long regarded Europe as its foreign strategy and focus because of its economic and political needs. However, since the 1980s
