Wang Jiu-liang’s ecological documentary “Garbage Besieged City” explores the ecological significance of the problem and discourse of rubbish in the process of urbanization and the consumerism in contemporary China. The author centers on the topic of rubbish discourse and analyzes how contemporary urbanization, commodification and consumption define the geographical location of rubbish and build its social position. In contemporary China, rubbish can be used as a mirror to map out the environmental crises that people choose to ignore but can not avoid. They also mirror the contemporary social and cultural contexts that make up the crisis.
