2006年10月30日,美国、英国、法国、意大利、澳大利亚和巴林六国海军在海湾海域举行联合军事演习,旨在防止核武器等大规模杀伤性武器及相关设备的扩散。自美国总统布什2003年提出“防扩散安全倡议”以来,美军已举行过24次类似的军演。但这次军演是首次在海湾地区举行,也是首次有海湾国家参与。科威特、卡塔尔、阿联酋、巴基斯坦和韩国等19国派遣了观察员。这次海上演习的假想目标是“一艘装载有与核武器计划相关物品的船只”,它被假定为“英国籍的货船”,
On October 30, 2006, the navies of the United States, Britain, France, Italy, Australia, and Bahrain held joint military exercises in the Gulf Sea to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction and related equipment. Since U.S. President Bush proposed the “Proliferation Security Initiative” in 2003, the U.S. military has held 24 similar military exercises. But this time the military exercise was held for the first time in the Gulf region and it was the first time that the Gulf countries had participated. The 19 countries of Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Pakistan and South Korea dispatched observers. The hypothetical goal of this sea exercise was “a ship loaded with items related to the nuclear weapons program”. It was assumed to be a “British cargo ship.”
