A research report on “Video Games and Minor Education Issues” shows that the proportion of Beijing students who have Internet addiction is 14.8% (among them, 11.8% for junior high school students and 15.97% for high school students). Based on this ratio, Beijing’s 92.26 million (2001) middle school students will have 136,500 addicts. Addicts are related to the educational level of parents. Parents are mostly addicts of high school education, and those with a bachelor’s degree or above are significantly lower addictions. There is also a relationship between addicts and their parents’ occupations. The proportion of student addicts in working families is high. This may be related to parents’ understanding and guidance of children’s use of computers to access the Internet. Statistics show that nearly half (49%) of parents do not know their own
