台湾小食美名远扬,种类繁多,是台湾人生活中最具代表性的饮食文化。通常,台湾小食都会聚集在各大交通枢纽、人流密集的夜市,台湾的夜市以浓厚的地方特色与地道的乡土原味俘虏每个夜游人士的心。举凡蚵仔煎、虱目鱼肚粥、炒米粉、大饼包小饼、万峦猪脚、大肠蚵仔面线、甜不辣、台南但仔面、润饼、烧仙草、筒仔米糕、花枝羹、东山鸭头、肉圆、卤肉饭等,皆是台湾风味独特的名食小吃,价位便宜又好吃,一点也不逊色,又可以吃出该地的人文特色。在台湾,到处都可以吃到小吃,尤其是夜市,是台湾非常特殊的文化,充斥琳琅满目的小吃美食,每个夜市都有不同的特色与风味。台湾小食有很多来自内地,因此台湾的小吃更为亲切和熟悉,口味偏向清淡、不辣、略甜,感觉上更多的是有江浙一代饮食风格的影子。虽说台湾的饮食文化继承了福建沿海地区的特点,同时也深受日本和欧美饮食文化的影响,形成了自己独特的特色,但是,台湾饮食文化的精髓还是琳琅满目的小吃。
