五台山是中外闻名的佛教圣地,位居中国四大佛教名山之首。千百年来,五台山的佛寺中居住过众多的僧人,他们在这一佛教世界里宜读佛法,修身养性,创造出一个不同见响的清凉世界。僧人中的女性,在印度佛教梵语中被称作比丘尼,我国俗称尼姑。她们与比丘(和尚)一起,构成了佛教世界中的僧众。 从古至今,五台山上的僧众不仅在数量上,而且在影响上,均在中国佛教界占有重要地位。
