新闻的重要性,指的是新闻事实对社会生活影响的普遍性以及与社会根本利益的密切性。是它构成新闻价值的要素之一。是新闻工作者衡量和判断一条新闻价值大小的一个重要依据;也是新闻媒介借以限制新闻过量地进入传播领域,提高人们对成品新闻的注意力的一种手段。西方记者对新闻重要性的判断主要依据五条标准,只要新闻符合其中的一条标准,就能归入重要新闻之列;符合的条件每多增加一条,新闻的重要性程度也就随之多增加一分。
