On September 28 and 29, 2001, two coronal mass ejection events occurred on the surface of the sun. Waves of energetic particles rushed to the Earth, triggering auroral activity. In the following week, the vibration layer that separates the magnetic fields in the northern and southern hemispheres of the sun just flies across the earth, causing another auroral activity. The image below shows the aurora images taken during this solar period. The location is in Yukon, Canada where you can see the green aurora and clouds tangled in the sky and the street lights in the town of Whitehorse below them.
