GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS). It exerts an inhibitory effect through GABA receptors located in the brain, and its receptor dysfunction is closely related to the occurrence of idiopathic epilepsy . Epilepsy can occur when the levels of GABA in the brain decrease and levels of excitatory neurotransmitters, such as glutamate, increase.
