The advantages and disadvantages of breastfeeding, breastfeeding time and breastfeeding behavior after childbirth among health education group and control group funded by the World Health Organization (WHO) cohort study on Shanghai postpartum lactation and contraception were compared with those of breastfeeding Time factors for multivariate analysis. The results show that: health education can help increase the rate of planned breast-feeding, increase the proportion of first-time sucking mother’s nipples, first time of holding mother’s milk, prolong the time of each feeding and raise the proportion of breast-feeding on-demand; Health education can extend the time of breastfeeding; during pregnancy, it is planned that lactation is less likely to be carried out by breast-feeding mothers for a long time; the less breast milk during lactation and the shorter the breastfeeding time; the less-educated the wives are; While those whose WOMs were secondary education or above had no significant difference in breast-feeding time between those with secondary education and those who had illiteracy. The women themselves decided whether to breastfeed or not, as compared with the time when they were breast-fed by their husbands or parents. Inhabitants with in-laws and in-law lived in urban areas and couples lived alone for a shorter period of breast-feeding; taking the wife’s occupation as a peasant as a control group, the wives occupying the positions of cadres, engineering technicians and medical and health workers lasted longer; Vacations and other occupations have a shorter duration of breastfeeding; the nature of the wives’ work units is shorter in breastfeeding than collective owners.
