Xiao Xu in the student stage to attack the landscape, but also birds and figures, to accept the orthodox pen and ink training, but his paintings are often not settled in the pen and ink. His early paper ink painting, The Bamboo Grove (2010), depicts the scenes of three foxes in a secluded bamboo scene. The picture is grim and gloomy, and the exquisite portrayal of the image features the Song Dynasty temperament. However, few would think that the painting was inspired by Akutagawa’s novel “Rashomon,” and the images sought to convey Western modernist sentiments such as anxiety, anxiety and suspicion.
