Background Since Thailand began its planned program of economic and social development in 1960 when its first national economic and social development program was launched, its average annual economic growth rate was 7.4%. During this period, the price inflation rate has been very low. The deficit in the international recurrent balance of payments accounts for only 1.5% of the GDP.
