In order to determine the expansion pressure caused by the expansion of rock in contact with water, reference has been made to domestic and foreign data to develop a rock expansion pressure instrument, which has been tested in several projects in Sichuan. The instrument’s performance, features, and methods of use are described below. 1. Instrumentation The instrumentation consists of a sample container, a pressurization device, and a measurement system (see photo). 1. The sample container consists of a water box, several stacked rings with a wall thickness of 10 mm, a permeable stone and a pressure plate. 2. The pressurizing device consists of a reaction force frame, a set of inner and outer screws, and an operating hand wheel.
