奈曼旗近年来结合治山治沙和更新林地,大力发展以果树为主的经济林,取得了很好的效益,目前,全旗经济林已发展到42304亩,年产各种果品549万多斤。随着果品产量的增加,还建起了一些果品加工厂,安排了一批农村剩余劳力,从而为经济振兴开辟了新的途径。奈曼旗位于科尔沁沙地西南缘,境內1224万亩土地上,有适宜发展经济林的山川、荒坨、河滩地20多万亩。前些年,农村落实承包制后,农民王国友就在次生林地更新时开辟果园21亩,栽植苹果、
