The BCG survey cites five stages in the development of intellectual property: exporting basic products → beginning to export hi-tech products → experiencing high costs of overseas intellectual property → huge investment in independent innovation and intellectual property → benefiting from intellectual property. Such a “road to intellectual property development” reflects the economic costs and benefits of the development and protection of intellectual property in various countries.
