Acoustic neuroma is derived from the â ... ¢ benign tumors of the cranial nerves, slow growth, can cause hearing loss, facial paralysis, facial abnormalities or even hydrocephalus. Surgery can achieve better local control, but can cause 94% of patients with hearing loss, 71% of patients with some or all of the unilateral facial nerve function loss. Since the first use of gamma knife treatment in the 1960s to stereotactic radiotherapy with a linear accelerator, satisfactory local control has been achieved, and the patient’s hearing, facial nerve and trigeminal nerve function can be preserved more than surgery. However, a single bolus dose of gamma knife lacks the biological benefits expected from fractionated irradiation. Therefore, the authors conducted a prospective, grouping study of the results of a single bolus and fractional irradiation of a linear accelerator.
