Titanium-doped sapphire is an excellent laser crystal which has a bright future. But the residual infrared absorption in laser operation region of the crystal hindered the enhancement of the laser gain. Reducing the residual infrared absorption is the key to that the crystal goes from experimental prototypesto commercially available products.
