和田河气田是塔里木盆地在古生界克拉通地区迄今发现的一个最大气田,探明地质储量为616.94×108m3.和田河气田主要产层为石炭系巴楚组的生屑灰岩段、砂砾岩段和奥陶系碳酸盐岩潜山.天然气主要为源自寒武系烃源岩的原油裂解气,经历了晚加里东-早海西期油藏的形成、晚海西期天然气的运聚与散失与喜马拉雅期和田河次生天然气藏形成的3个主要阶段.和田河气田发现的最大意义就是在古生界克拉通地区的新构造运动圈闭中可以形成大气田.
