Surgery has practically, only cured a small proportion of some localised solid tumors.Radiotherapy, given as complement of conservative surgery, increased its effects, especially since adjuvant medical therapies (hormonotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy) have been introduced.Their role consists to eradicate the possible remaining cells in the site of primary surgery, and those in other possible sites.Adjuvant chemotherapy obeys first order kinetics, as shown by the reduction of sensibility of cell population in parallel with cell number decrease (combinations of drugs being a better solution than their dose increase).Hormonotherapy is applied under the form of anti-androgens in the case of prostate cancer, anti-estrogens and anti-aromatases in those of breast and ovary cancers.LHRH agonists are applied to both.The abstention, recommended by some in post-menopause women, is in contradiction by others.
