This article compares the experimental performance of two different S-shaped subsonic gas inlet pipelines. Model A is a planar S-shaped diffuser whose centerline is offset only in the horizontal plane. Model B is a spatial S-shaped diffuser whose center line has the same offset in both horizontal and vertical directions. Comparable properties include the static pressure distribution along the process, the total pressure field at the exit cross section and the swirling characteristics, and the power spectral density of the gas stream near the reattachment point at a high angle of attack. The results show that the characteristics of the airflow in model B are worse than that of model A. Especially at high angle of attack, the performance of S-shaped space diffuser deteriorates seriously.
