这几年BMG旗下的爵士老牌RCA Victor推出各种菜适混合的合辑动作不断,可是品流混杂,真正能够抓住爵士乐精髓的,在老乐迷耳中恐怕不多,这张“爵士午夜情”是少数的例外。不但阵容完美、演奏精彩,更不容易的是“调性”与标题的企图完全的一致(Jazz at Midnight),也许再找高手专挑选RCAVictor的录音来做这样一个浪漫主题的合辑,也不可能超过它了。标题曲《大约在午夜》,原作者赛留尼斯·孟克的现场演奏版本里的味道与这里收录的有很大差异,目前依旧活跃在舞台上的萨克斯风大师桑尼·罗林斯用了“纯化”旋律的演奏方式,将这首曲子变得温情异常;查特·贝克(Chet Baker)的《这些傻子》是一首吉他手的表现略微“功高盖主”的曲子,不高贝克的小号与伴奏的小号交织的音纲依旧十分动人。第五首的《我唯一的爱》(My One &Only Love)是笔者最钟爱的爵士标准情歌,常听约翰·柯川与强尼·哈特曼的合作版本、史汀在《远离拉斯维加斯》电影原声带中的自溺版本,再听这里克里欧·连恩的浓情版本,仍然觉得颇有收藏价值。第
