水墨画是较具有中国特色的一种画体,以中国特有的材料墨作为其创作的材料,以水调之产生不同的浓淡层次,形成以水墨为主的绘画形式。水墨画经千百年的发展,至当代形成“现代水墨”、“当代水墨”、“实验水墨”的不同称谓,水墨画的发展与中国传统文化和精神的衍生和发展有着密切的关系,内在蕴含着中国艺术和文化的精神。水墨画的当代性主要指水墨画发展为集书写性、意向性、偶发性、瞬间性、流变性、互渗性、随机性等多种性质为一体的笔墨形态,并且水墨经由长期的积累达到相对完整和完善的审美境界。当代水墨画以一种强烈姿态,呈现在中国的艺术文化中。
