Tachkinin is a family of naturally occurring peptides, including substance P and other structurally similar peptides, such as physalae-min and kassinin. This family of peptides structurally share a common C-terminal amino acid sequence, namely: phenylpropyl-X-Gan-Brilliant-Methylthio-NH2 and have similar biological activity, for example, can cause smooth muscle contraction and lower blood pressure. However, to date, only substance P in this family of peptides has been shown to be present in mammalian tissues, with other peptides found only in amphibian tissues. Recently, Japan’s H. Nawa et al. Reported that a new substance P substance precursor was found in the brain tissue of cattle, and this precursor has an amino acid sequence similar to that of tachykinins. It is called substance K (SK) because it is similar in structure to kassinin.
