The United Nations Diplomatic Conference of Plenipotentiaries on the Establishment of an International Criminal Court was held in Rome, Italy, from June 15 to July 17, 1998. The 120 member states of the United Nations adopted a treaty in Rome - Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (hereinafter referred to as “Rome Statute ”), decided to establish for the first time in the history of the world a permanent International Criminal Court. The Statute entered into force on January 1, 2002. From now on, anyone who commits an offense stipulated in the Statute will have the obligation to hold the court accountable for its responsibility. As of March 15, 2005, a total of 139 countries have signed the Rome Statute, among them the ratification of the Rome Statute
