Not long ago, I attended a parent seminar at the beginning of a middle school class. Of the 60 students in this class, the worst test score was history, and about 1/3 of the total number of students failed. I asked a few students and they shook their heads when they talked about history. They said they were “dry.” Looking at the history textbooks, I feel the same. The shortcomings of textbooks are that there are more abstract empty words and less vivid facts; some historical facts are not clearly explained or misunderstood.
