David Turner described how he conducted a preliminary study of local music on the island of Grotte in the late 1960s through the use of geo-mapping, locating clan boundaries and recording kinship ties. Fifteen years later, he returned to the island to continue a more detailed study of local music and asked the musician he had interviewed about how the song he had sung was made. On the one hand, Daxian, a capable person in the cultural tradition, uses his intellectual resources to construct the material world. They construct similes, metaphors and other metaphors that act on different sets of sensory experiences, and at the same time, construct a causal hypothesis about the “law” of everything in the world. Through the application in the actual environment, they become a kind of social order. On the other hand, this kind of creative act arises from a world beyond creator control that determines their destiny.
