突出文艺主体性是左翼启蒙派显著的理论特征,也是其理论建构的主要着力点之一。在政治话语压抑美学话语、个人话语的特定时代情境下,这批作家依然固守着某些“五四”启蒙文学观念,在尊重特定意识形态的前提下尽可能地凸现个人话语,并从创作主体的角度展开对文艺主体性问题的探究,在文艺理论建构与批评实践中寻求一条有别于左翼功利派的文艺价值论路向,为在当时语境下展现意识形态话语提供了一种新的可能性。实际上,这是在艺术自主与政治他律之间寻求话语突围的一种尝试。
