In the process of English learning，listening， speaking， reading and writing are the four basic skills. In order to improve our English learning ability and application ability， we should promote the coordinated development of these four basic abilities. However， in the actual process of learning English， many students do not pay attention to the training of reading， which leads to poor reading ability. In this paper， I share my learning experience to explore how to cultivate English reading ability.
　　Firstly， Find the fun of reading English.
　　The reason why many students are weak in English reading is that they are not interested in English reading. In order to stimulate interest in reading English and cultivate reading ability， we should do as the following：
　　a. Find some interesting English reading materials.
　　Only when we are interested in the reading materials， can we stimulate the desire to read and improve the efficiency of reading， so as to cultivate good reading comprehension ability. Therefore， we should choose the reading materials that we are interested in to carry out reading training.
　　b. Find some interesting learning ways.
　　Some students think that English reading is boring， but I don’t think so. I am always trying to find some interesting learning ways to make English reading interesting. Sometimes， I join English reading club to share the fun of reading with the club members； sometimes I debate with my friends to express different understandings on the same essay； sometimes I write reading notes to record my reading feelings. In short， I can always find different ways to make English reading interesting.
　　Secondly， master some reading methods.
　　If we can master some reading methods， we can improve the efficiency of reading and cultivate the ability of reading. Generally speaking， I think the effective reading methods are as following：
　　a. Master intensive and skimming reading methods
　　In English， for some articles， we need to read carefully to understand them in details； for some articles， we only need to find the keywords or key sentences to get the desired information. If we can master intensive and skimming reading methods， for different articles， we can adopt different reading methods. In this way， we can improve the speed and accuracy of reading， so as to improve the reading ability.
　　b. Mater comment reading method.
　　For Chinese students， we usually have difficulty in reading an English article smoothly. We can try to use the comment reading method to solve the problem. In the process of reading， when we encounter some information we want to record， some new words we haven’t learned or some complex sentences we can’t understand， we can use comment reading method to mark them in the article to help us to understand the article deeply and efficiently.
　　Finally， do some reading comprehension training.
　　Reading comprehension is not only an important part of college entrance examination， but also an effective way for the cultivation of reading ability. Through reading comprehension training， we can learn more vocabulary， master more reading methods and improve reading ability. So， we should do more reading and more reading comprehension training.
　　In a word， listening， speaking， reading and writing are the basic skills of English learning and each of them is quite important for a senior student. In practice， many students do not pay enough attention to reading training， which leads to the difficulty of comprehensive English learning. I hope my personal experience can help other students find the fun and the methods of English reading and improve their English reading ability.
