通南高沙土地区位于长江三角州北缘,土质多为粉质壤土,气候温湿多雨,年平均降水量在1000毫米以上,麦作期降雨量多年平均值在380毫米左右,基本能满足三麦生长的需要,但多雨年份麦作期降水量达550毫米,其中三麦生长后期3—5月份降雨最高达395毫米,容易导致三麦受渍。其渍害率超过35％。为了取得渍害指标,江苏省泰县水利科研站从1984年起开始这一试验工作,经过两年的时间,已取得了一些初步成果。
