“信息”一词起源于无线电,地质学借用之,如地震信息、找矿信息、矿物信息等.矿物本身或集合体所显示的性质或通过某种手段揭示出来的矿物性质和特征,并对找矿有一定指示意义通常称为指示性矿物,指示性元素或矿物信息。如晶体形态、元素混入物、元素指示比,晶体结构变体、热释光、包果体,熵和焓等。在矿物、岩石中充满各种各样的信息,有的是我们需要的信息,有的是我们不需要的信息,把我们需要的信息找出来,运用于找矿,这就是对找矿有指示性的矿物或指示性元素。
